Special Links Page
Your website comes with a prebuilt "Links Page" The Cool Tool builder will organize and format these special links for you.
About Links On Your Pages
The internet's biggest advantage over any other media is that by clicking on a link you can immediately be directed to the information you want on the original site or any other site on the web.
In addition to the normal navigation menu on your website, there are many reasons to include links within the content of your page. With your WYSIWYG editor it is easy to build those links for your visitor's convenience.
Types of Links:
There are basically three different kinds of links you'll use.
- Links to pages on your own website
- Links to other websites
- Links to email addresses
All three can be added by clicking on the hyperlink icon.
How To Use:
After typing the text into your website editor, highlight the text to be linked and click the hyperlink icon. A small popup window will open to lead you through adding the link. Sometimes opens BEHIND your editing window.
Links to your own website:
Link only to pages that you've already built!
Type in the exact page address. For example - this page's address is aboutLinks.htm. If the link is going to your own website you don't need to add anything else, just click the Insert Link button and continue with your page editing.
Links to other websites:
Don't guess at the address. Bring the webpage up in another window and highlight the entire URL from your browser's location bar. Copy the entire address.
Highlight the text on your page to be linked, click the hyperlink icon and paste the entire URL into the HREF: box. In the target box type: _blank. This tells browsers to open the link in a new window. You don't want to lose your visitor by giving them a helpful link.
Email Links:
If you type an email address into the HREF: box, your website administrator will create the correct code for an email link.
